I really thought this would only be one season when it started.
Honestly, have some issues with percieved idiocy of certain characters like the brother and Kirch. I think being apart of the alien universe actually hurts the story, would probably be a lot better if they were free of the constraints that a big franchise with decades of history places on it.
I will definitely watch season 2 though. I love a lot of the ideas the show has. The eyeball creature is fantastic.
It’s not really a cliffhanger. The final episode is like 45 minutes long and nothing much happens, so by default it sets itself up for a second season. It’s not like it cuts right in the middle of an exciting scene or something.
Too bad I just canceled Hulu with no intention of resubscribing.
And now that I know it ends on a cliffhanger, I guess I won’t bother finishing this season before my subscription ends in a couple weeks.
Was this worth watching? I watched one episode and thought it was ok, but haven’t had a chance to finish it yet.
I binged it today, and the honest answer is no. Even the best episode, is dog shit when you start to think about the things that happen in it. Its starts off well enough, but goes down hill hard as fuck. And when you factor in that you’ll probably be waiting 2 or 3 years for season 2, I really wouldnt bother.
I watched three episodes before I pulled the plug. Actually more like two and a half episodes.
So no I don’t say it is worth watching.
Forced myself to watch till episode 3. I thought it was lazy, uninspired and dumb.
It was the first Alien production that I didn’t really care about what was happening.
Felt like a fanfic made on a giant budget.
It’s let down by very lazy/sloppy writing and the usual incredibly dumb characters that plague every Alien film. The concept and setting is pretty unique within the franchise, and it is fun in parts. Unfortunately, every time you start to get your hopes up it brings them back down with a really dumb plot hole or inexplicable decision made purely to advance the plot, and that starts to get quite annoying in the back half of the season. I wouldn’t rush to finish it unless you are really into this genre/setting.
The weren’t any dumb characters in the first two alien movies.

Gotta love how an alien takes over a dead body with a hole through it and somehow that body gets up and walks. Never mind there’s no way that would work without blood, respiration, etc. This show just repeatedly jumps its shark with every episode.
I thought that stuff was fine, this isn’t supposed to be hard sci-fi. It was more character behaviour and inconsistencies between episodes that I had a problem with.
For example:
-
The cyborg guy recruits a kid to steal back an alien for him and barely gives this kid any information to work off, but when the kid inevitably fails because he had no idea what he was supposed to be doing the cyborg is angry/surprised. What did he expect? Is he stupid?
-
In one of the earliest episodes they show Wendy manipulating electronics and the island’s system and everyone is aware she can do this, yet later in the series it’s like they forgot she had this ability and they put her in a cell she can just immediately unlock and walk out of. Then they send a cyborg who is linked to the system to stop her and she just instantly shuts him down…again, are these people stupid?
-
Nibs has some sort of PTSD so they wipe her memories to fix it, yet make no attempt to control the behaviour of anyone around her so she instantly gets told by her friends that her memories have been wiped and starts freaking out, thereby completely defeating the purpose of the memory wipe.
-
Arthur decides he wants to free all of the hybrids, so he disables their tracking right in front of a security camera and then turns and gives it a very suspicious look just to make sure they figure it out quicker and have a better chance of catching the hybrids. Then he walks into the alien lab with seemingly zero concern for biohazards or his own safety (classic Alien writing fail) and allows himself to be very obviously manipulated by a child. I know he’s a technician and not a biologist, but it’s just unbelievable to me that someone can be this stupid, particularly when he’s supposed to be one of the people who understands the hybrids the best.
-
They have alien flies that they know feed on electronics and minerals, so they lock them in a container seemingly made out of the very components they’re shown to eat. For some reason, the flies never eat their way out of the container and only escape when someone opens the door for them.
-
Nibs get an electric shock at the end of Episode 7 and based on Wendy’s reaction and the way the scene is shot, it’s like it killed her. Yet in Episode 8 she is totally fine, seemingly zero damage or side effects. Very lazy way to make the end of Episode 7 seem more important than it actually was.
I think some of the stupidity around the hybrids is quite obviously referencing the attempts to create AGI in our world. Most AI companies are run by complete morons who are rushing as fast as possible to ensure market dominance, seemingly with zero concerns for safety or the negative side effects that could accompany such a creation. So I kinda get why Boy Kavalier is braindead stupid, but it’s still pretty annoying to watch.

It’s ok. The very definition of “ok”. It might even be “alright”. More importantly, it really fucks with the original Aliens timeline, since it is placed 2 years before Alien. Aliens 2 is also messed up by implied timelines. My wife and I had to have a sit-down and hash everything out so it would make sense. Some mental gymnastics and it’s fine. Making a lot of assumptions based off implied hints. Such as the original mission of the deep space science vessel starts like 65 years before the show starts. Remember that as you watch. But ya, that’s about it. Take your time watching it, binging will only make it feel worse. The last two episodes has some great scenes too so look forward to those.
Some people love it. I thought it was awful.
Kind of a spoiler in the headline.
Tbh it’s not a massive cliffhanger. They left some story threads open and rounded a few off. Like any series expecting a second.
Your comment implies that there were plot lines they closed up, and I would disagree with that.
The series started off strong, petered out in the middle, and just left the biggest wet fart for a season finale, that resolved nothing.
Yeah knowing it ended on a cliffhanger I am not going to watch until season 2 airs or is about to air.
But it’s a TV show
Yup.
I mean like it’s resolution enough for a season, cliffhangers are pretty much guaranteed for shows that are doing well.

Cries in Alien Nation.
