Serious question, has “anonymous” been on the right side of history, ever? I know the shtick is supposed to be that they’re not a centralized organization, so I guess they could host a myriad of ideologies, but since finding my way to anti-imperialist and communism, I’ve never heard of anything associated with anonymous that sounds coherently anti-imperialist, let alone in support of socialist projects specifically. They just seem vaguely anti-authority.

I wish they’d just cancel student loans and shit like that, but instead they’re lapdogs of the empire. Probably because they’re run by the empire lol

I think it’s become clear now that they’re some type of feds. It’s no secret the cybersecurity field is full of them, with intelligence agencies (FBI and CIA in the US but their homologues in other countries too) recruiting from conferences etc, and even going to speak to them without talking about their fed involvement. All the hackers of old who eventually became feds too (even if on a freelance basis) after they served time in prison. They prefer to have these hackers for themselves rather than leave them as loose cannons.

edit - oh yeah and the recent 4chan leaks that showed mods with a .gov email lol, though I don’t know how much of that is actually true. Be careful what you read online etc etc.

No, and they aren’t even “anti-Auth”, the US isn’t on their chart, Britian ain’t there either. They are basically middle class moralists and join their colonial governments in terrorizing the infrastructure of states oppressed by Imperialism. They are little digital missionary rats.

Gotcha, thanks. Do you know of any good sources on it I could look at for the details? Like operations they’ve taken credit for, for example. The only concrete example I can remember was something about Egypt from years back and at the (lib brain) time I thought it was cool, but given what I know now about imperialism and how it operates with claiming tyrannical any country that opposes it in any way, they were probably on the side of imperialism there.

Besides their “War on Russia” and multiple times hacking the PRC, a big example would be them attacking Syria for claims that the government took out communication infra during a “crackdown”. It turns out, it was the US NSA that took down Syria’s telecoms during an ISIS invasion so Anonymous went out of their way to prevent any messaging between the government fighting ISIS and the civilian population.
