Civil war in Greece to suppress communists, followed by semi-dictatorships and full dictatorships for the next 30 years. Communists sent to Aegean gulags.
Terrorist action in Italy to suppress communists. Political assassinations and imprisonments for a decade.
Mass police beatings of demonstrations and political prisoners sent to Carribean gulags in France
Meanwhile Spain and Portugal ruled by fascist juntas for decades.
Yeah, there was so much liberation and self-determination in Western Europe!
Exactly. The whole reason we have a platform like reddit where people spout off monster under the bed views about the USSR is because of decades of virulent and violent anti-communism and its consequences. It’s likely these people grew up being told USSR bad and Russian bad and so on, and they have never seriously questioned it. How I don’t know with some of them, because if reality were as binary as anti-communists make it out to be, it would be communism that is ridiculously obvious to be the good person ideology, the one that is obsessed with ideas about everybody getting their needs met, not the ideologies that are like “it’s just inevitable that some people are gonna be rich and some will be poor and you should do charity to alleviate it.” Communists are the fucking Care Bears of ideology and people have been told they’re bad because the Care Bears have to pick up arms sometimes to match the ones being pointed at them by kings and lords, and their modern equivalents.
It’s just so wild to me when I think about it in perspective. The extent to which anti-communism DARVO’d the hell out of the world, in every corner they possibly could.

Don’t forget West Germany creation and nazification.
Indeed!

Communists: we should maybe improve society somewhat
Liberals: YOU’RE LITERALLY WORSE THAN HITLER!!!
