Good short-term cure for acute fascists, but the long-term cure for fascism is to run society so the vast majority of people are very happy, so they don’t fall for con artists who promise to relieve their misery.

Even with growing disparity between the ultra wealthy and regular people most people in developed countries still score very highly for human development with a lot of freedoms, access to health, education and live reasonably prosperous lives by historical standards.

Its been a long time since most of us saw widespread famine or war or plagues decimating our populations. There is good reason to demand more social and economic progress which you would think would increase the appeal of that and not the politics of self destruction. There is no sane reason to burn it all down for most people.

Yet fascism still seems to be in a massive resurgence. Something really odd is happening. There is a huge information war that has seriously undermined society. It has taken over many religious groups, outsider groups like conspiracy believers and alt health, and conservative leaning parties. It is in online gaming and image boards and normie social media. It preys on social immature males appealing to their insecurities. It preys on people looking for spiritual connections and community. Seeing peace and love hippies standing side by side with Christians and full on Nazis is fucking weird but I saw it during COVID.

The fascists were always there but they were not a political force and there is no reason they should ever be again. Not sure why it is happening or why we are letting it happen. It is certainly not in our interests. It always ends badly.

My wife shot herself in the eye with a confetti cap gun last night trying to see if it was loaded. She literally pointed it at her face and pulled the trigger.

Oh my god, it is almost like people use memes to communicate ideas that are different than the original source.

Not all violence is equal. The only way to stop a Nazi is to bash them. If you deny that, you’re a liberal which is a fascist collaborator. You’re going to sleep walk your way into Nazism.

The only way to stop a Nazi is to bash them.

There’s another, more effective and less violent and non-solipsistic way. A great deal of the power of fascism stems from their economic position. Guys like Zuck and Elon are dangerous because of their enormous wealth, not merely because of their toxic political views.

And since you can’t just Luigi Mangione the problem of economic elitism, you need collective action at an economic level to starve out the beast.

Incidentally, the “starve the beast” strategy is a conservative approach historically espoused and employed by Grover Norquist, Tom DeLay, and now (via the guise of DEI) Bill Ackman, Peter Thiel, and Donald Trump. Its incredibly effective, because it eliminates the ability of the opposition to effectively organize and administer large groups of professionals.

      From his Wikipedia page

Hitchcock was too young to enlist when the First World War started in July 1914, and when he reached the required age of 18 in 1917, he received a C3 classification (“free from serious organic disease, able to stand service conditions in garrisons at home … only suitable for sedentary work”).[37] He joined a cadet regiment of the Royal Engineers and took part in theoretical briefings, weekend drills and exercises. John Russell Taylor wrote that, in one session of practical exercises in Hyde Park, Hitchcock was required to wear puttees. He could never master wrapping them around his legs, and they repeatedly fell down around his ankles.

      So, none.
