Lemmy is pretty good for news.

Try using your Lemmy app on fanaticus.social, they have a bot that posts live sport scores, but I’ve only seen American football there.

There’s also the possibility of just using an RSS reader with sports RSS feeds.

You could use an RSS reader like Newsboat. ESPN and plenty of other sites maintain RSS feeds

Edit: I just realized this is an android community, so instead of Newsboat use an Android equivalent
