Epic pays the publisher a flat fee for permission to distribute the game for free for the week.

Your individual download doesn’t give Rowling any less or more, but shows support for her IP, and tells epic they made a good decision to support her.

I’ve heard great things about the game, but for me the download does support Rowling, so it’s a hard pass.

I think so, yes. I don’t want features that are privacy invasive that will likely be turned on by default when they show up. I’d rather not have the worry that something in the background may be harvesting data to feed to a model somewhere. Were this an extension that needs to be installed independently in order to even be present, would i agree? Sure. As a “now this app has AI built in” feature? Absolutely not. I will keep avidly avoiding software which adds AI, whether it’s something I use or not.

  • I’m using pop os (24.04 cosmic de in alpha state) and it’s been my daily driver for about a month now. Generally everything works without fussing. I’m eagerly waiting cosmic beta, but to be honest I’m not sure I’m expecting anything to get “fixed” because everything is already working.

Regarding games, some things need a tiny bit of fussing (open game, unmaxamize and then remaximize screen… Just as an example) and some don’t work quite yet, but I’ve been shocked at how many games “just work” even though they’re not made for Linux.
