  • My sister had a cat who was declawed (not by her), medicated, old, sort of inbred, and had lived inside all his life. A more harmless cat you could barely imagine. He regularly found it a challenge to drink his water without fucking it up, and spent a lot of time just staring at the wall.

He once found a moth that was already damaged when he got to it, and successfully killed it. He carried the moth around in his mouth, clearly basking in the intoxicating flood of pride of the hunter he was feeling, for almost an hour before eating the whole thing.

  • Someone on Reddit asked one of their editors during an AMA why they covered Biden’s flaws in such eager and abundant detail, and gave Trump a free pass on so much heinous nonsense. His answer was more or less that Trump was popular and Biden wasn’t, so their coverage needed to reflect that.

They had multiple columnists who were sort of “Non-death-camp Republicans,” I remember one of them was a black guy. The whole thing was fuckin’ stupid from the jump, although they did sort of return to a more reality leaning once Trump won and it became a little bit clearer how bad it could get.

  • I mean, it is going up. Every year that goes by when that chart is above the 0 mark, is additional damage when the systems are already to their breaking point. We’re still hitting the patient every day with a hammer. We’re not healing him. We’re just hitting a little less hard, but not by much, as the days pass and pass, and he’s already shattered.

So many things got put into place under Obama and Biden that our emissions are actually reducing, and thank God for that. But it’s not enough for them to go slightly down. It’s a sliver of morphine, maybe, once a month as his bones are still splintered.

  • This is a solved problem though. Britain in the pre-Thatcher years bought up a ton of properties, rented them out at pretty reasonable rates, and thus punctured the bubble and made it so that private landlords were free to do literally whatever they wanted to do (no trying to artificially hit control levers in the economy or legislate people into economically unviable situations), but you couldn’t really do a bangin’ business just buying up properties and renting them out anymore. People who wanted investment income would find businesses to invest in instead, rent was cheap, and the government got a steady stream of income to do whatever they wanted with. Literally everyone wins.

Of course, because it interfered with already-rich people being able to get richer without doing any work, Thatcher hated it and got rid of it. The US probably can’t make this happen for the same reason. But there is a simple answer to this problem that’s proven and works.

  • he US and Europe agreed to for Ukrine to give uo its nukes that if Russia invaded those counties would come to its defence

It’s not quite that simple. The wording (at least in English) was very carefully ambiguous, promising “assistance” if something happens but not quite a security guarantee, but it kind of sounds like a security guarantee.

Another key point was that U.S. State Department lawyers made a distinction between “security guarantee” and “security assurance”, referring to the security guarantees that were desired by Ukraine in exchange for non-proliferation. “Security guarantee” would have implied the use of military force in assisting its non-nuclear parties attacked by an aggressor (such as Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty for NATO members), while “security assurance” would simply specify the non-violation of these parties’ territorial integrity. In the end, a statement was read into the negotiation record that the (according to the U.S. lawyers) lesser sense of the English word “assurance” would be the sole implied translation for all appearances of both terms in all three language versions of the statement.[18] In the Ukrainian and Russian version of the document, the wording “security guarantees” was used though.[20][21]
