Nothing to really say about this, but I enjoyed reading it.
I tell terrible jokes.

Oh look at that. The Nazis had the exact same kind of freezepeach that the US does. You can make inappropriate jokes about your leaders, as long as you don’t criticise policy or the system.
Weeabo, I would guess. Though that is very reductive of me.
I think Prora is a great way to show how fascists (or capitalists in general) will always over promise and under-deliver, and then act like you’re in the wrong for expecting them to have actually delivered on their promises. How they will try to wow people with big impressive sounding things, but show little to no actual desire to keep moving forward with them, and will have their own behind the scenes reasons for creating something (usually militarisation or profit)
Damn, I can’t honestly tell if that article is tongue in cheek, or if that is honestly just how Americans talk about the Soviets. Great advice in there though, in between all the random attacks on the USSR.
Expect communism to get heavily nerfed in every single balance path. Paradox games’ fanbase is largely reactionary, and they love to complain. HOI4 had a similar issue where the USSR was nerfed and Nazi Germany was buffed practically every single patch. I expect Vic3 will have similar issues.
Nazis love the idea of “refuge in audacity” where they will say and do things so absurd that people disbelieve it on principle. Don’t be fooled. They knew what they were doing. Even if the heads of parliament themselves didn’t, enough people along the chain of decisions did and were ok with it. This is how fascism is normalised in a country. It’s not through a big brown “fascism filter” but through little “gaffes” like this, little “accidents” that occur more and more frequently, and become more and more normalised until they are no longer gaffes, but “just how things are.”
I think you’ve just had another person join your anti-fan club.
I fully expect your comments in the future to have 6 downvotes each time instead of 5 or else I’ll be very disappointed in this guy.
Seems like the easiest goddamn job in the world. You just find like, a dozen people willing to take a payment to agree with whatever you want, then pretend those things represent millions of people (and rake in millions of dollars yourself.)
I’ve heard that ex-communists make the best capitalists, because they understand the best way to exploit the system.
Well you see, China’s authoritarian regime has increased persecution of Uyghurs, we believe it could be as high as a 72% increase. They are being targeted by government affiliated agents, according to our anonymous source. Sadly, this is just another in a long line of China’s attempts to squash free speech in their country. After all, remember Tienanmen Square?! I rest my case. China bad.
“Spoilt rotten idiot doesn’t understand how toasters work. More at 11.”
Thanks! I’ll check those out. Not normally a big fan of pop stuff, but it’s usually still nice to listen to. (there’s a reason it is popular after all.)
That’s a bit different though, that was an internal issue, nothing to do with their power projection abroad, and the former states of the USSR hating it has more to do with 30 years of neoliberal propaganda being shoved down their throats rather than anything the USSR actually did.
China has actual soft power, in that they build infrastructure for other countries. People can point to a hospital or a highway and say “China helped us build that.” US only has meaningless distractions full of white people living lavishly (even “poor” families in US media are always stupidly wealthy compared to the average person in the global south). It works great on other western nations, but providing actual, tangible material benefits to a people goes a lot further than shoving Avengers 17: The Hulk Passes a Kidney Stone down their throats.
I’m sure they have quite an impressive music scene, I just don’t know anything about it personally. Did you have any recommendations?
There are a lot of good shows in China, easily equal to any South Korean or American tv show. I don’t think their animation industry is quite as developed as Japans, but they still produce plenty of animation (and arguably, much better stuff than 90% of anime, seriously, anime can be amongst the worst things created by humans sometimes.)
The problem is that Chinese media rarely gets exported to the west in the same way media from western allies do. It isn’t a lack of capacity or ability on China’s part, it is a lack of willingness on the part of westerners to consume media from “the enemy.”
No, don’t you understand? This person has the majority opinion! And as we all know, if a lot of people believe something, that automatically makes it true and moral. Solidarity (by agreeing with the status quo) is the only solution to problems!
Also, if a person disagrees with the status quo, the worst thing you could ever do is listen to what they have to say! It is the height of intellectualism to know you already have the capital T “Truth” and all others are automatically wrong!
It’s fascinating watching the west talking about Korea during the cold war. It was rarely, if ever mentioned, and was treated as pretty bad, at best an “unfortunate necessity” but usually just ignored as much as possible. It wasn’t until the 90s when South Korea’s image was rehabilitated and the DPRK was demonised.
