BCBoy911@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•China has found Trump's pain point - rare earthsEnglish37·1 day agoChina spent the last 2 decades investing in infrastructure, energy, heavy industry and manufacturing while we were… doing what exactly? Selling smartphone apps to each other, pumping crypto, gig economy and letting private equity gut our services?
BCBoy911@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•Global markets fall and gold hits record high amid jitters over US banksEnglish5·1 day agoGoldbugs were right after all. To be fair it’s always been a much, much better investment than shit like crypto or stocks. At least gold is real and has real uses in the real world.
BCBoy911@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•Hamas carries out public executions after returning to the streets of GazaEnglish32·2 days agoI’m not sure what you’re asking, but the average American racist for sure thinks all Arabs are Muslim. Usually their Islamophobia is actually anti-Arab racism, as they aren’t nearly as bigoted towards Indonesian or Chinese Muslims.
BCBoy911@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•Hamas carries out public executions after returning to the streets of GazaEnglish322·2 days agoIt was interesting to see all the mainstream outlets suddenly talking about extrajudicial killings in Gaza like they haven’t spent the last 2 years cheerleading for an extrajudicial genocide in Gaza. The articles are all meant to present an implicit message - “look at how scary and violent these Arab barbarians are. This is what happens when you let them run their own country instead of killing them all”.
BCBoy911@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•Hamas carries out public executions after returning to the streets of GazaEnglish14·2 days agoHere’s the article from Amnesty on the issue. It’s from 2016 so the situation has obviously changed since then, but I doubt they’ve become more squeamish about torturing Russians especially with how widespread Russia’s own use of torture has been.
BCBoy911@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•Russian drone incursion ‘tactically stupid and counterproductive’ says Polish ministerEnglish39·2 days agoI suspect the drone incursion was accidental. Judging by Europe’s reaction though, I think Russia sees no downside in continuing to fling cheap drones their way. It wastes NATO’s time and money by forcing them to scramble their jets and anti-air defense systems and nobody in EU leadership has it in them to invoke Article 5 over cheap drones with no payload entering their airspace.
BCBoy911@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•Hamas carries out public executions after returning to the streets of GazaEnglish33·2 days agoHamas wouldn’t need to exist if Israel ended their apartheid and genocide of Palestinians. There is no “both sides” here.

BCBoy911@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•Hamas carries out public executions after returning to the streets of GazaEnglish38·2 days agoIt’s pure racism. Decades of propaganda has trained people to see violence by Muslims as different from violence from other groups. People here have no issue with Ukraine torturing and executing Russian collaborators, but when Arabs do it they’re seen as violent savages who’ve been hypnotized into ultra-violence by their primitive religion.
BCBoy911@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•Hamas carries out public executions after returning to the streets of GazaEnglish35·2 days agoYes, that’s usually how you deal with collaborators and snitches when you’re at war with a much larger enemy. I don’t see what their religion has to do with it, Hamas is a nationalist anti-colonial movement, not an Islamist one.

BCBoy911@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•Hamas carries out public executions after returning to the streets of GazaEnglish205·3 days agoPlease. There’s never been an anti-colonial movement where collaborators weren’t punished harshly. Nelson Mandela’s ANC executed collaborators in famously brutal fashion.

Because idk if that really reflects the broader attitude in China. Chinese people are extremely friendly and generous to foreigners in my experience.
You could install Batocera and use it as a home theatre PC and retro gaming station.
BCBoy911@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•The civil war breaking out in Gaza with executions in the streetEnglish26·4 days agoThey’re talking about the Popular Forces here, an ISIS-linked drug trafficking gang that collaborated with Israel during the genocide. Their leader, Yasser Abu Shabab, recently wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post, despite being illiterate. When the ceasefire was announced, Israel said they would not give give them any support or amnesty lol. Now they’re stuck in Gaza with Hamas hunting them down. Moral of the story is never become a collaborator, especially with western-backed regimes. You always end up being left hanging onto the last airplane as it takes off from Kabul.

The point is to manufacture consent for violent regime change.
Matrix gets a lot of flak from people for their constant protocol changes, de-facto centralization around matrix.org and Element etc… but I’m very happy with Matrix as an open, federated, encrypted and private messenger and I hope it gets more adoption.
