  • Okay but ice cars tend to catch fire while running or fueling. EV’s are the same, it’s just they tend to fuel at home and possibly inside of a flammable structure while completely unnattended. I don’t honestly know the actual fire risk of an EV and honestly I doubt there’s a lot of good data that can be found with the amount of time i’d be willing to invest, what with EV companies wanting to downplay and any and every oil-related industry wanting to exaggerate.

  • Your OS being the cause of massive problems running common programs should not be something you have to have the skills to fix in the first place. And distro issue? How the hell are you even supposed to pick a distro when if you ask 10 linux users what distro you should use you’ll get 11 different answers? Sure, you could just try them all, but it takes a long time to evaluate an OS, plus just making sure that all the programs you want to run don’t just shit themselves.

  • I’m not the OP of that comment nor did I express any opinion on the matter but fuck it let’s do this. Your position is, if I understand it correctly, that people who think that a politician, a group of people famous for making empty promises and gestures especially when running for office, might be making empty promises and should not be lauded for what may just be paying lip service to a hot-button issue, are “parroting nonsense” and “basically an AI” to you. I understand that there are constant proven efforts to attempt to convince democratic voters not to vote, but I think that freaking out over any critique of the democratic candidate is frankly unhealthy for both this platform and for democracy at large. I know the stakes for this election, I was going to vote for Biden and I am going to vote for Harris, but just because we live under a fucked up two-party system and we have to fall in line when it comes to voting doesn’t mean we have to fall in line for the dogma as well.

  • Y’all I fucking hate windows but running linux went fine until I had to do some video editing for classwork. Premiere pro, which I had a student license for, obviously out. I go looking for FOSS alternatives because hey i’m sure there’s a good linux video editor. I think I ended up settling on Kdenlive. I tried installing it from the ubuntu app store and that version was missing features. I tried installing it with apt-get and then proceeded to spend the next 5 hours trying to fix a missing dependancy that seemed to have just vanished off the face of fhe earth. I’m sure there are workarounds but “able to look through the error logs of the apt-get and track down the problem” apparently wasn’t tech-savvy enough to have a video editor, one of the most important types of professional software IMO. (also i spent so much money on games cause proton doesn’t play nice with piracy very often). I think lonux is perfect for thw really basic user or for the hyper advanced superuser types, but when you’re in the middle it can be a real bitch to work with.
