It’s a consistent recurring theme in their propaganda, from the grotesque racial caricatures in Nazi publications like Der Sturmer to the modern day, where they represent their enemies with hideous soyjaks and portray transwomen as not just men, but unwashed, hairy neanderthals.
Along with phrenology, physiognomy, or the idea that you could determine certain fundamental behavioral or personality traits solely on the basis of appearance, is one of the handmaidens of eugenics, and it feeds into the fascist obsession with genetic determinism and gene pool “purity.”
But also, “You have lost because I’ve depicted you as the hideous monster and myself as the shining god become man” is a pretty universal propaganda tactic. Dr. Seuss’s depictions of the Germans and Japanese during WWII weren’t exactly flattering.
