I remember reading about this guy and getting so creeped out I made sure my windows were locked despite living on the top floor. I remember when he got caught. This is when people started getting into Doe cases for real. How he got caught was by comparing crime scene DNA to a close relative.
Michelle McNamara, author of “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark” (published posthumously) pushed the forensic genealogy ideas that helped track down this monster. There was also a great HBO documentary in the same name.
