I found a video online that I want to watch. The trouble is, it’s on facebook and it says you need an account to watch it. So I tried to sign up to facebook, but when it gets to a certain stage in the process it says:
**Confirm your identity with a video selfie
To make sure that you’re a real person, we need you to record a video selfie. We’ll ask you to move your head during the recording to help us capture your face at different angles.**
What the hell? Is it me, or does this seem insanely sinister? what do they want this for?

i once had an instagram account. i used it exclusively to post screenshots from a variety of comfy games where you can do decoration, like sims and stardew and stuff, because i play those games a lot. i ended up getting quite a few followers. i posted maybe twice a week.
one day, i logged in, and it told me i had been banned due to suspicious activity. it wouldn’t give me my account back unless i sent a selfie of my face while holding up a card with my instagram handle on it. i did not do this, and they permanently closed the account
rip my internet clout ig
That sounds like 4Chan shitposters trying to trick you into something (bet the next step would have been to put a shoe on your head). lol
It is like all the stuff that would have previously been a huge tip-off of a phising attempt, are just now used by the supposed “legit” services/sites. I am curious how much such a “check” matters with all the AI gen stuff getting better faster than the “prove you are human” stuff.
