It’s an arraignment for a 4 year old misdemeanor warrant out of a neighboring county (criminal trespassing). It’s a good sign that they let me out and gave me a court date, when they could have just held onto me, but idk. I’m scared.
Does your lawyer (presumably a public defender) seem decent? Have you been to court before? Do you know how you’ll plea?
Of course any penalty won’t be great, but misdemeanor criminal trespass doesn’t seem terrible, and it’s not like you’re getting sentenced now. (IANAL).
In the rather unlikely event you end up sentenced to prison, consider joining the IWW’s Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee, they do a lot of good work (and membership’s free for prisoners).
Anyways, wishing you luck.
This is just arraignment, and if they wanted to keep me they probably would not have ROR’d me, when they could’ve easily gotten my ass while I was already in jail last month, but who knows.
And I’m being charged with a class C misdemeanor, which has a maximum of 30 days in jail; the thing I was in the klink for last month had a max of a year.
