"In a surprise announcement today, Liberal leader Mark Carney has committed to implementing proportional representation within the first 100 days of forming government after the April 28th election.

‘We have heard Canadians loud and clear,’ Carney stated during a campaign stop in Winnipeg. ‘The time for electoral reform is now, and we are fully committed to ensuring every vote counts.’

The Liberal plan would introduce a Mixed Member Proportional system similar to New Zealand’s, with the legislation to be drafted immediately after the election.

‘This isn’t just a promise,’ Carney added. ‘We’ve already prepared the draft legislation and have secured cross-party support.’

When asked about the party’s previous broken promise on electoral reform in 2015, Carney displayed a calendar prominently showing today’s date — April 1st, 2025.

‘April Fools!’ the Liberal leader laughed. ‘We’ve been making this same promise since Mackenzie King in 1919. Did you really think we’d follow through this time?’

Carney then unveiled the party’s actual platform: ‘Making Every Vote Count*’
