There are very legitimate concerns that AI can be used to replace content created by human writers. In the meantime, writers are being employed to help train the AI that may one day replace them.

Probably better than just having their writing scraped and used without compensation. Not much better, mind.
I read a book recently (The Sparrow by Russell, good but harrowing) that referred to such programs as vultures, which was rather long-sighted given it was written in '96. Isn’t even about AI either.
