I think it would be better if we waited for these discussion posts to hit just as the movie releases. By the time it comes out this post will be over a week old.
Maybe if it’s something really big we could have prerelease discussion and then the released discussion.
🙇♂️
Right then, how about posting 24 hours before the movie premiere? How’s that? Some people get really geeked about certain movies (or sewer-dwelling talking turtles and sensei rats, for that matter). Or do more than five people want it the day of the premiere? Let me know! We’re still in trial phase here with the pinned Discussion Megapost thang.

@King MongooseI think for all movies the main discussion threads should open morning of release or maybe the day before.
For the super hot movies it would be good to do prerelease thread (1 week ahead), regular discussion (day of), and a post release thread (1-2 week after release).
Also, wanted to be sure I wasn’t being shitty with my comment. This is a great format and I’m loving that we’re getting good discussions like this going.
I think another cool idea would be to do a throw back Thursday thing where a thread is opened on old movies. They could be left open forever to recreate the old IMDb forum days.
wanted to be sure I wasn’t being shitty with my comment.
We’re good, amigo! 🫶 Thanks for the input!
I’d probably say on the release day at minimum, a lot of people have ‘hide read posts’ on and will never see this again.
What’s a Mongoose to do?..

And yet this post gets 87 upvotes and 10 comments. 🤦♂️ There is no pleasing you people! 🤣 🫶
Just seen this really really enjoyed it.
Some human designs were a bit strange but I can see what they were going for.
Sound design beyond licensed music was astounding. Didn’t realise that it was Trent Reznor till the credits which makes complete sense.
Loved the sketchy artstyle and the look it gave in motion especially during the action sequences.
I was never that much of a turtles fan growing up but this made me appreciate it. I’ll be eagerly awaiting the sequel.
Would you say the character design is more faithful to the original Kevin Eastman comic book art?
I’m not a comic guy so I’m unreliable, but there are moments that to me felt reminiscent of that artstyle (there’s a few style changes throughout). I think the artstyle in general is trying to emulate that sort of rough sketchy artstyle the comics had but giving it that colourful makeover that people mostly know the turtles for from the cartoons. A nice middle ground that makes itself look rather unique in its execution.
The standard design of the turtles themselves feels like a unique take on them, trying to make them actually look and feel like teenaged turtles. I think it works really well.
Kowabunga, dude! 🤣 Thanks!
Beautiful post format.
And 97% on RT so far? Added to my Trakt queue.
Awww 😊 shucks! Thank you!
It indeed is beautiful, thank you for your work!
I already told you I’m not lending you a dime! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Thanks again, Blaze! 🫶
I recently saw the new TMNT movie and I have to say I really liked it a lot. I didn’t grow up with the TMNT, so it’s hard for me to say how accurate it is to the originals, but I thought the animation was phenomenal and the story itself was very solid too.
I’ve seen a lot of people praising the animation, so I’m not going to include too much detail on why I liked it (to avoid retreading too much ground), but I really liked how grounded and relatable everyone’s motivations were. Wanting to fit in and be a part of a community is such a quintessential human experience; and lashing out from fear of rejection is extremely relatable as well.
The humor seems aimed pretty solidly at millennials (based on the references made throughout the movie), and I was surprised how adult this kids’ movie was.
Overall, I greatly enjoyed this movie; and after Barbenheimer last week, it’s been a good week for movies for me
Since this seemed more adult to you, would you say it’s inappropriate for a 6yo?
I think it should be OK. The movie was rated PG, though it feels like it rides the line with PG-13 a little. I saw the movie almost a week ago so I don’t remember exactly what made me think that at the time, but I was a little surprised by some of the musical cues (though my understanding is some of them are in the trailers). When I said it was adult, I just meant that it didn’t talk down to the audience in a way that would annoy adults
I personally didn’t find any of it particularly objectionable, but I might not be the right person to ask. This website seems to think 11+, but this is the first time I’ve looked at the site so I’m not sure how accurate their rating system is.
Thanks. I usually go to that site but they’ve been trying to force subscriptions so it’s faded my usage. I think I’ll hold off watching with the kids for now.
I saw it. Overall I liked it. I’ve been a turtles fan my entire life. It felt like a bunch of turtles fans said let’s make the turtles and lets make them 2023. Of course they changed some stuff but I can’t really clutch my pearls because it’s very clear they love the franchise.
Overall loved the animation, soundtrack, and Ice Cube. I laughed quite a bit in the theater watching this. Solid 7/10 movie and I can see a lot of kids thinking these turtles are as cool as I thought the 80’s turtles were.
Best review ever. Thanks!
Yeah I hope you liked the film. Honestly my biggest critique is I wish the last animated film I watched wasn’t spiderverse.
One of the freshest stories with the Turtles that I’ve seen in a long time. The way they wrote these characters was great with an absolute huge amount of potential for the future. They could go in any directions with this as a franchise and, with how beautiful the art style is, I’m all for it. I was impressed to see the talent casted for the film as well. If you’re interested in this then do yourself a favor and watch it in theaters so you can really appreciate the art.
CartoonBrew: ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ Reviews Roundup: This Franchise Reboot Is A Knockout
I’m not a fan of the Turtles but I do like them. I went to see this because my youngest had obviously got wind of it on YouTube and something about it grabbed him.
For a bit of perspective, I enjoyed the 90s cartoon, the first live action film (I love the animatronics) and the CGI film TMNT.
Mutant Mayhem was a brilliant film, even if your not a die hard fan. I love the colourful art style as well which was so fresh and different from anything else. It’s probably going to be a 4K release for me, that art needs to be appreciated.
The story went in a direction I wasn’t expecting and I loved Jackie Chan as Splinter. His fight scene involving an office chair was very Chan in style.
Of course there’s a mid credit tease and considering they were a character I was expecting to see all through the film, I hope we get a sequel.
EDIT: I’ve expanded my thoughts into a full review.
Eagerly awaiting the early showing on 7/31. This looks like a blast and seeing so many positive reviews already is awesome.
Just back from seeing it and thought it was excellent. Super entertaining, and really dig the art style.
I really enjoyed it, the random pop culture references didn’t really feel natural to me, but you could say it makes sense in the context of the characters. Definitely excited to see where the sequel goes.
Looking forward to seeing this.
Oh, Roganized TMNTs & Co., it’s time to return to the sewers. Time to unpin you but it’s been a gas! Ciao!
