God, reading that was painful. They really do try to spin the narrative in the most obnoxious ways. I’m not holding my breath a peace deal will be made based on how Ukraine and its backers are talking. Feels like more posturing by the West to try and paint Russia as unreasonable for not surrendering unconditionally while winning.

I think whether a deal is made or not will ultimately depend on the US. If Trump pulls weapons from Ukraine then the war is over, so he has a huge amount of leverage over them. Whether the US will eventually agree to Russian terms is the real question here.

The funny part with the whole thing here is that Europeans made an ultimatum to Russia to agree to an unconditional ceasefire. Then Putin came out with a statement that a ceasefire can only come as a result of negotiations, and then suggested a concrete date and place to hold negotiations. He masterfully outplayed them diplomatically here.

It’s all a question of how the US wants to pull out of the war. The decision they have to make is whether they value the relationship with Russia or Europe more. Forcing Ukraine to take the deal would burn bridges with Europe, but it would open opportunities to restart economic relations with Russia. Given that European economy is crashing, and that the US now sees China as the main threat, it’s entirely possible they make a cynical decision to prioritize securing resource deals with Russia over Europe.

he masterfully outplayed my patience. I was promised Oreshniks but waited 2 hours to see him ramble about his holiday plans to Turkey.

Why would Putin want to assassinate the one person that could end this bullshit, dangerous war?

You neoliberal bootlickers have no capacity for thought.

I actually do think Putin would assassinate Zelensky if that would accomplish anything for him, and that he doesn’t want the war to end before he’s secured everything of relevance in the Ukraine. However, he doesn’t actually stand to gain anything from Zelensky’s death, as the man is a replaceable figurehead and has gotten in the way (of fascist factions) more than his potential replacements might.

I think you’re right. Though I do think that Putin is smarter than most people give him credit for, and I feel like ironically he might protect Zelenskyy to an extent, since no matter how Zelenskyy would die, Putin would be blamed.

I actually do imagine the reason the west haven’t assassinated him is probably, to some extent, that Putin is taking steps to ensure Zelenskyy’s personal safety.

Zelensky would probably be replaced by someone much more moderate on Russia even if assassinated by Putin in broad daylight at this point.

That being said, he’s also a sucker who is getting on the bad side of Trump and that is worth more than a yes man in the Rada.

no, the next guy would have 7 bandera tattoos on his face and would be unable to finish a sentence without calling for the extermination of someone.

the one after him would be the moderate.

I’m sure Putin’s security detail is taking adequate precautions against the treacherous and backstabbing west.
