Puzzling Puzzles - Principia
principia-web.seHello and welcome to the second Principia building contest. (Yes there were thirty or so contests on the old community site, but we're resetting the counter for the open source version of the game...)
This contest's theme is **Puzzles**, the level type to be precise. It is a somewhat neglected feature of the game, being deprecated in 1.5 outside of the built-in classic puzzle package. But with the release of 2025.04.05, it has seen new life and is now available as a level type in the sandbox as well as on the community site. To celebrate this, this contest will be about making puzzle levels.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to construct a puzzle level with some kind of challenge for the player to win. The goal is up to you, whether it be guiding robots to a goal like in the classic puzzles, putting a marble in a basket like in Apparatus, or something more advanced using the wealth of tools Principia gives you.
You have two weeks from the publication of this contest page, and the deadline is on the 28th of April 2025 at exactly 12:00 GMT.
## Tips and Tricks
- You can choose whether an object is movable by the player by pressing the button with a cursor in the sandbox.
- The Game Manager is a very useful object for implementing a custom win condition.
## Rules
- The level type should be Puzzle! While I recognise that you can still create puzzles using other level types, the focus on the contest are puzzles made using the puzzle level type, where the player gets the opportunity to build something in a paused state before starting the level.
- Old levels created before the contest are not eligble for entry.
- Theft of entire levels is not allowed. Inspiration is allowed, plagiarism is not.
## Scoring
Once the contest is over, a winner and a runner-up will be decided by the contest judge (ROllerozxa). Both will get their levels featured on the front page as well as awarded a stylish trophy on their user page (Ok, I still haven't implemented this, but it's coming soon™, I promise).
Depending on the amount of entries, there may be some other level entries that will be highlighted for things that are interesting but didn't make it to the top.
