Switched from a TV with Chromecast to one with Roku. Using a remote is just more reliable.
The Roku remote and UI are simple perfection. I’m currently staying somewhere with an Xfinity box and it’s a mess.
I remember when AirPlay first came out, I’d have to keep tapping my phone screen because the stream would stop when my phone went to sleep.
I did get one of those, modded the shit out of it, and now take it with me on holiday.
I have never considered modding it, but I have one. Can you link me some resources that you used? Or even just explain the benefits

Taps volume up button.
Five seconds later after the poor packets finally make it to the dongle through the congested wifi network, the volume indicator goes up by one notch.
This is also why I’m fed up with my wifi smartswitches and about to put the circuits on contactors controlled by a hardwired relay board. Network latency means no remote control system using it will ever feel “realtime”. As humans, we notice those couple dozen extra milliseconds.
