w3dd1e@lemmy.zipto Games@lemmy.world•Valve gets pressured by payment processors with a new rule for game devs and various adult games removedEnglish19·4 days agoYeah I don’t get it here. I kinda get them not wanting to deal with porn when you can’t verify consent and age of the performers, but the games don’t make sense because there aren’t live performers to worry about.
Mostly that stuff annoys me on Steam because it’s always at the top when I’m sorting by trending/popular, but I don’t think it needs to be removed either.

w3dd1e@lemmy.zipto Books@lemmy.world•What book(s) are you currently reading or listening to? July 153·5 days agoYeah. When I first tried audio, I couldn’t do it at all. I just kept missing too much. I had to teach myself how to do it and once it clicked, I couldn’t go back.
I find it helps me stay on task when doing tedious tasks while listening, but I can’t work my day job and listen either.
w3dd1e@lemmy.zipto Books@lemmy.world•What book(s) are you currently reading or listening to? July 155·5 days agoI am a big fan of Dungeon Crawler Carl, especially the audiobook. If you aren’t used to listening to books or you had trouble in the past, this is a perfect book to try it again.
It’s not going to be the best book you’ve ever read, but I promise promise promise you will never get bored. I found myself laughing out loud in my car a few times, and I teared up once.
The narrator, however, is the best I’ve ever heard and it’s not even close. I was absolutely blown away. This man could be doing very well for himself in cartoons and video games. You’ll feel like listening to a cartoon, which is why I say it’s an easy book to try on audio.
If you do listen, let me know what you think! If you get to the later books, I’m always looking for someone to discuss theories with!
I haven’t heard of GQ, but I see on Goodreads, I see a friend of mine gave it 5 stars. (He rated DCC at a 4, for what it’s worth). How do you like it so far?
w3dd1e@lemmy.zipto Books@lemmy.world•What book(s) are you currently reading or listening to? July 158·5 days agoI feel like I’ve responded with this series several times already, but I’m not the faster reader.
Still listening to the Dungeon Crawler Carl series by Matt Dinniman. I’m on book 7, The Inevitable Ruin. I’ve listened all the way through twice. And I’ve heard the first couple a few more. A friend started the series recently so I started over to listen with her. I don’t mind at all. I really do love these books.
After this, I plan to finish the Red Rising series. I haven’t read the latest book in that yet. I’d also like to listen to the new series by James SA Corey. The Expanse series is probably my favorite of all time.
w3dd1e@lemmy.zipto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•will i be judged or will people think i'm cool if i learn to talk "oldtimey"?15·6 days agoThe real answer is that it depends on your age. Probably also race and gender. People will react differently to each.
An older adult ready for retirement? Delightful!
A kid trying to be different and impress girls! Cringey.

w3dd1e@lemmy.zipto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Force is the last refuge of the incompetent1·6 days agoOh also, the zoning and type of property matters too. A strip mall has different requirements than an office or hotel. Obviously
w3dd1e@lemmy.zipto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Force is the last refuge of the incompetent1·6 days agoI’ll try to look some up today but I think it varies by lease and by loan. You can’t apply the same rules to a warehouse as an office as a grocery store. Also, big spaces are different than small restaurants. Might not be consequences for a Chipotle but there could be for a grocery store in the same strip mall. The leases negotiated between the landlord and the tenant also have to be approved by the lender.
The whole thing is called “going dark”, meaning they are still paying rent but not operating on the premises. It causes the borrower/landlord to go into something called “cash management”. They lose the ability to collect rents directly. It all gets sent to a special lockbox that the lender has access to. They use those funds to post the payment and other things like that. They send a portion back to the borrow for operating expenses then hold onto the rest. The borrower also has to pay cash management and bank account fees when this happens.
I remember there was a big fight at a shopping center near me because a grocery store wanted to move the grocery location and open a giant liquor store in its place but the landlord didn’t like that. I believe they ended up terminating the lease and a different grocery store moved in. My company didn’t handle that loan so I don’t know the details but I knew that the loan was likely the real reason for the fight.
w3dd1e@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your harmless/low-stakes conspiracy theory?10·7 days agoThis. My dog knows words that I didn’t teach him. I know people talk about pattern recognition and what not but that’s not all that different than human knowledge. I learn words by hearing them repeated too
I know how to read his body language and the tone of his barks to know what he wants. He will even show me, if I ask him.
I suspect he understands a lot more than I am capable of deciphering as well.
w3dd1e@lemmy.zipto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Force is the last refuge of the incompetent4·7 days agoTheir mortgages have clauses that cost them when tenants are not operating onsite. It devalues restaurants and stores in the area. I’m not saying it’s right. It’s just how it works. Tenants have to do business on site during the lease or they pay fees and their landlords have to pay the banks.
