I used to be in reddit like… All the fucking time. So much in there in so many niche subs you could scroll for hours and not see the same thing twice. Since lemmy is so much smaller and not as built up so much yet I’m not doom scrolling anymore.

It’s not the size, it’s the content and format. When your goal is profit, you set up the system so that it fuels negative emotions to keep people hooked and addicted. Any time you weren’t engaged is money lost. I can guarantee, if you go back and look now you’ll see so much negativity on there that you accepted as normal before. The Fediverse is non profit and built for communication alone. No competition points, just people.

Same here. I’m not going back to reddit either. I’m loving the Fediverse. There is plenty of content for me.

Feels good scrolling content that isn’t recycled from other social platforms. Most of the the small communities offer unique content that is of interest to me. I also feel compelled to share content as well. I’m enjoying my time here so far.

I appreciate that there’s less ragebait here. It’s not nonexistent, but I feel like Reddit is filled with it.

I agree, it’s helped my mental health and is helping me with other hobbies I’ve been meaning to pick up. Which is ridiculous, because I would subscribe to subreddits for those hobbies, but would never actually engage with them, then feel like a lazy dickhole.

Same. I’m nervous about if/when enough people make the switch and start actively commenting…I might get lost in the comments like I had on Reddit.

Agreed, Lemmy feels less addicting because it’s has less content to mindlessly for me to scroll forever, but once this place gets more activity, I’ll probably return to mindlessly scrolling as usual.

I commented this before. Leaving reddit was a blessing for my internet use. I am actively seeking out interesting content, getting my news from actual news sites and discovering way more stuff then just simply getting dumbed down by the seemingly same content that every reddit post and comment thread has to offer

In my experience, everyone I’ve ever interacted with who used “touch grass” as an insult was someone who peaked in highschool
